As Chaosium's first boxed campaign set, Borderlands was a new kind of scenario pack. Like Griffin Mountain, it describes the people and places of the region; in this case much of the middle portion of the River of cradles. Like Snake Pipe Hollow, it has detailed linked adventures. Each scenario is flexible, usable alone and designed for beginning characters. The 7 scenarios slowly expose the players to greater dangers and also let them learn more information about their world. Most of it deals with the people and places in Prax, including: Agimori, Morokanth, Broos, Newts, Tusk Riders, and Ducks. The Eternal Battle, from Nomad Gods, is described fully. New magic items and optional rules round it out. You can tie this in with Pavis and Big Rubble once the players become initiates. Of all of the things Avalon Hill could have reprinted and didn't, Borderlands, Pavis and Big Rubble would certainly top the list.  Drastic Resolutions: Volume Prax filled in some of the out-of-print background and spirit cult information.  It has the lowest page count of the 3 campaign boxes. The box contains:
What's in the box / credit sheet. Standard issue for all RQ boxed sets.
Common Knowledge for Players, 4 pgs. Contains the Raus mercenary contract. One read should suffice most players. The back-ground of the area could be more detailed.
Referee's Handbook, 48 pgs. A guide to the land and people of the River of Cradles valley around Raus Fort. Cultural backgrounds and game statistics simplify playing characters for the referee and the players. It also has area maps, a Prax temperature and precipitation chart, 12 Plunder items, background on Broos, Ducks, Morokanth, Newtlings, and Tusk Riders, a generic spirit cult, and pre-generated characters to speed up play.
Referee's Encounter Book, 32 pgs. Descriptions and statistics for the animals, monsters, and other player encounters. The alphabetized list has from 2 to 25+ pre-generated creatures for each of the 23 encounters. I love Lisa Free's drifting spirit picture. Ducks are present too.
Map of the Raus Domain, 22" x 17".
Map of N. & S. River Cradles, 11" x 34". In Pavis and Big Rubble as well.
Hand drawn maps for encounters, 4 pgs. Rather crude in nature, but they do help visualize what's going on in a few of the scenarios.
Individual Scenarios 1-7:
1 Scouting the Land
, 4 pgs. Get to know the landscape around the fort and the tribes you exploit.
2 Outlaw Hunt, 6 pgs. The good, the bad, and the ugly, Prax style.
3 Jezra's Rescue , 8 pgs. Foil kidnappers and rescue a nasty daughter.
4 Revenge of Muriah, 8 pgs. See for yourself.
5 5-Eyes Temple, 20 pgs. Newtling foes and an underground cavern.
6 Condor Crags , 6 pgs. Climb for the Condor eggs.
7 To Giant Land!, 8 pgs. A chance to journey to the legendary castle of Gonn Orta. With a good map and a Griffin Mountain tie-in/transition.
