This is the most important and best piece of the game after the rules. It made Glorantha, especially Prax, a place we could better understand. Until its release, only the cults of Orlanth, Kyger Litor and Black Fang were detailed. Fifteen gods and goddesses are divided into the Barbarian, Invader, Lightbringer, and Non-Human pantheons. The introduction inludes steps on creating cults and spells if what's here isn't enough. All the cults are detailed with history and mechanics, except for the Seven Mothers cults, who collectively get about as much space as any one other cult. Over 100 new battle magic and rune spells are included. Vivid background is added with excerpts from The Travels of Biturian Varosh, an Issaries trader who encounters each of the cults as he journeys through Prax. The artwork helps bring many of the cults to life. The two editions are easily told apart by their covers. The 1st edition has the Steve Swenston picture of Biturian Varosh, Norayeep and Baboons. The 2nd edition has the William Church map of Prax cover and only slight internal differences. The back pages have appendices covering cult compatibility (the one in the RQ Companion is much more complete), cult membership by tribe, truestone, a calendar of holy days, a chronology, a weapons table, new spell lists and details on how slave bracelets work. Modern Gloranthaphiles have tried to debunk the validity of Biturian's stories, but why bother? Some people always distrust used mule salesman who take advantage of Baboons, Storm Bulls, and beautiful women with godlings in tow. GW did a printing as well in A5 perfectbound size.
